The Amazon Echo devices are popular because the device integrates with a large number of devices, services, etc. The device itself is just a wifi speaker with microphones but the software technology behind it is what makes the Echo lineup popular. The hardware used for the Echo line is nothing new, it was just repurposed with software. The multi room audio company Sonos has several competitors from well known companies, some would say the Echo speaker is a competitor as well, in my opinion only to a degree. Sonos instead of being left behind have plans on having voice integration from the 3 most used voice assistants. Not all, but some of their products were pre Alexa and have integration with several home automation controllers and 3rd party apps. I know Blink cameras are not home automation devices and they’re not marketed that way besides Alexa integration, but home automation and security will always intersect at some point at least in the DIY field. The wifi cameras from competing brands have several integrations with home automation apps/services.
