I keep telling people three basic beliefs I have in Blink. However, the newbies don’t know any better so here goes again.
#1 Amazon bought Blink for about 9 million. They bought Ring for about 90 million. That’s a 10:1 ratio. Blink is being kept basic on purpose at it’s price point so it doesn’t negatively affect sales of other wireless cameras that Amazon sells - Ring, Cloud Cam, etc.
#2 Amazon did not buy Blink to further advance Blink. Rather, they bought it to further advance other products that Amazon sells would benefit from ultra low power chipsets that Immedia Semiconducter made for Blink. Think Amazon Key Services and other Smart Home devices. Blink was simply a donor child for the growth of those types of products. Those products have exploded in sales volume since Blink was purchased. Blink features/benefits/and USA sales…not so much. Blink milked foreign markets to increase their sales. However, foreign support has been sketchy from what I read in this forum.
#3 Over the last two years, from time to time I ask how much extra would you pay for those additional features/benefits. EVERY SINGLE TIME, the answer from multiple people is ZERO. Those customers expect freebie upgrades. Why? Because Blink’s Achilles heal is that damn mobile app that doesn’t work in any other mode except…a mobile app. Mobile apps on phones get free upgrades all the time. So existing customers expect Blink to wave their magic wand and give them free additional features/benefits.
Go back to item #1. Blink is kept basic on purpose. Too many additional features/benefits, you just killed Ring sales. So one more time…how much extra are you willing to pay to Blink for additional features and benefits? It’s just programming ain’t cutting it.
