First timer with Blink XT2’s

Hi all,

I’ve just set up my first ever security cameras at home. 3 x XT2’s.

Got a couple of basic questions, hope you guys don’t mind!

At the side of my house (where we park our cars) we have a floodlight which is activated when it detects movement.

My wife just came home and I got the notification from the side camera. When I checked the video it went from colour (when the light activated) then switched to black and white.

Is this normal?

Flood light and night vision

I had the same issue with two of my cameras. One I turned off the IR completely, the other setting to low was enough. You may need to play around a bit and see what works for you. Short answer is that when the light comes on it will mess with the IR, thus the B&W to color switch.

I kinda liked the fact that it went into colour mode (due to the light going on). Wondered if I could make it stay like that during the recording.

So, the ‘control’ setting, is that essentially controlling infa-red mode? If it was set to off and the outside light activated, i’m guessing that would then just record in full colour? Guess it means though that when the outside light isn’t triggered, then very little would be picked up (although such insignificant motion detections wouldn’t matter really, if they aren’t big enough to set off the security light then there isn’t much threat?!).

Exactly. I have a camera outside with an always-on light, so I don’t use the IR at night, thus it records in color. If you are sure the light will go on when you’re also triggering a recording, you can certainly just leave the IR off.
