I’ll go further and say that it’s astonishing that this feature is not available. Losing auto motion detect in live view means that just because you are taking a peek, you may miss capturing something very important. I’m a new user, and some would argue that if I wanted this feature, I should have looked for a different system, rather than be disappointed, but Blink fits the bill in so many other ways, not least of which was cost, that I chose the system anyway.
Even though I’d read about this drawback in advance, I still purchased the system, expecting that there would be a simple workaround, but there isn’t really. I don’t consider phone screen capture apps to be an acceptable workaround. As for battery life arguments, these simply don’t hold water. You don’t have to be Einstein to understand that if you’re actually actively using the camera, and making a recording, you will be using up your battery much more quickly than when it’s simply sitting at idle, waiting for a trigger.
I want to be able to initiate a recording and/or take a screenshot, at will, regardless of what’s going on, so this is disappointing, but the fact that this view disables auto motion detect and record is, as I mentioned at the start, astonishing.
Lastly, because the team at Blink always seem to want to know why one might need a particular feature, one of my cameras, when properly deployed, I’m still in testing phase at the moment, will be looking only at a river, for the purposes of observing the conditions, and as required, I would like to record the river, and or take a screenshot, to share with other people. This camera will have no need for auto trigger at all, so here manual trigger is exactly what I need. The other cameras in this same system will be for security, and I will need auto trigger, but I don’t want to lose auto record when simply taking a peek at what’s going on. At the very least, if I have to, in the absence of continued auto record, I want the option to manually record it in such circumstances.
By the way, if it’s impossible to record and provide a live view simultaneously, I’d even be happy with just being able to record at will, and not even see what’s going on whilst the recording is taking place. If this turns out to be the case, a pop up warning, such as the following, or similar, could help clarify this for the user. “Selecting record whilst in live view will pause your live stream”. Tick box for “Do not show this warning again.”
Thanks for your time.
